The
word education has a very wide connotation. It is difficult to define education in a single statement. Education is
an activity which encompasses the various facets of human life. It is as old as human beings are. Education
plays an important role in moulding the character and personality of an
individual. In the social sense
education is the means by which society transmits its accumulated knowledge,
skills and values from one generation to another. Different Educationists and Philosophers have
understood and explained education differently according to their philosophy of
life. But all agree to one thing that it
illuminates the mind and enables us to think rationally and realize our innate
abilities.
